The Power to Change Your Mind

Little Andromeda Theatre, Christchurch

From the Promo:

A Beautifully Stupid Hoax Motivational Talk

A motivational talk by faux-genius and guru of nothing, Vinyl Burns.

Chock full of ridiculous twists on the familiar motivational clichés and rich layers of absurd analogies and recursive metaphor, peppered with nuggets of unexpected philosophical whimsy.

Written, Produced, and Performed by: Kim Potter

Franciska's Review:

Well that's an hour of my life I will never get back.

As a 10-15 minute comedy skit it would have been brilliant.

Stretched out to an hour, not so much.

I feel terrible giving a poor review. The concept was fantastic and Potter delivered some clever lines; "Do something now, later, or not at all. Just don't do them all at once." and "You'll never not know so much again." However, he failed to keep my brain engaged.

It was all rather monotonous and Potter completely missed the opportunity to change things up when he pulled an audience member onto the stage. Some form of hypnotic wizardry would have taken things to a new level. Instead, there was minimal engagement with the individual and he chose to instruct the audience to stand and stretch.

So much potential. But for me, it fell short on delivery.

Pity.
