Yosemite Challenge: Lawns

As the Yosemite Challenge is much longer than the previous ones I have completed (70km compared to Angkor Wat at 32km, English Channel at 34km, Marathon to Athens at 42km, and Berlin Wall at 48km), there are longer periods in-between post cards and landmarks. So decided to post a wee update to acknowledge that I AM in fact still clocking up those exercise miles.

This past week (plus one day) has comprised of two goes at intentional exercise (one BodyPump class and one BodyBalance class); five episodes of incidental exercise (housework, shopping, and gardening); and one complete day of rest.

I am still finding the weights super tough on my body - both during the class and in the days following. I am using the lightest of light weights and stopping before I hit exhaustion, yet it sill seems to be too much. But I refuse to stop. Perhaps I should aim for just one BodyPump class per week and instead of a second, do a Pilates class for strength and flexibility.

Speaking of flexibility... I hadn't done BodyBalance in months. This too is a mind-fuck as my body struggles to bend and flex into positions that previously came so easily. However, unlike the weights, Tai Chi and Yoga don't leave me fatigued the following day. So I shall persevere. I am certain that regular practice will improve my flexibility (as well as all those other health benefits that come with Tai Chi and Yoga).

Another first was mowing the lawns! I seriously cannot recall the last time I managed to do any gardening. Not bad effort with a push mower. Though I must confess, I need a 20min break after 30mins of mowing and weeding. Firstly because the sun broke through the clouds and secondly because I was struggling to breathe. But after a short break, I found sufficient spoons for another 20mins of mowing and weeding.

On that note, I have a friend re-designing my garden. It will be a complete transformation. I absolutely cannot wait to see her ideas.
