In AD 27, tired of the constant scheming in Rome, the emperor Tiberius packed up and headed to his villa on the isle of Capri.
Free from the constraints of city life, Tiberius let his hair down and began to indulge himself.
The ruins today allow a taste of Imperial retirement as tourists wander around the labyrinthine halls and admire the same views over the Amalfi as the old Emperor would have, all the way back in the time of the Caesars.
