Marathon to Athens Challenge: Acropolis

When Athens was founded, two gods, Athena and Poseidon, arrived on the Acropolis and competed to be patrons of the city.

Poseidon struck a rock and produced a saltwater wring, but Athena brought forth an olive tree.

The men of the city voted for Poseidon, but the women, recognising the life giving power of the tree, voted for Athena.

Luckily there were more women than men in Athens at the time and so Athena was declared the victor.
