I honestly can't remember what inspired me to try cross stitch, but I do recall being drawn to this gorgeous image of a young girl Collecting Shells on the beach.

Whilst I never set foot on a beach until I was considerably older than the girl depicted on this picture, even my mother agrees that she resembles me at that age.
Unfortunately, I do not recall when I finished this piece - nor when I began it for that matter. (Hey, it's been over a decade!) But it was sometime in 1999 and took approximately six months to complete.
I used a counted cross stitch pattern - a technique that appeals to my mathematical mind - providing the perfect activity whilst watching TV.
Sadly, the thread has faded over the years - despite being framed and positioned out of direct sunlight (or so I believed).
Never mind, nothing lasts forever and I have long since stopped using my married name. ;o)
